Along with assisting small businesses in a wide range of matters, Mr. Roberts civil litigation practice has included cases involving real property, to include title insurance claims, fraud and concealment in real estate and commercial transactions, boundary line disputes, lien
enforcement, partition suit and creditor suit enforcement, and construction law cases. He regularly represents commercial property owners with compliance issues and lease enforcement, to include the filing of unlawful detainers. He was the co-author and presenter of
the “Essentials of Landlord-Tenant Law“ in 2018 for Virginia CLE and was an active participant with the Campaign to Reduce Evictions Legislative sub-workgroup (CARE) as a landlord advocate. Mr. Roberts also handles commercial real estate transactions and drafts and negotiates commercial lease agreements and ground leases. His experience as a creditors’ rights attorney has included appointment as special counsel to the Chapter 7 Trustee in a corporate bankruptcy matter and regularly appears in the bankruptcy courts on behalf of creditors.
As a former musician, composer and music producer, Mr. Roberts still assists professionals in the music industry in furtherance of their goals and has presented topics of contracts, copyright and corporations to the School of Media Arts and Design at James Madison University, and to both the School of the Arts and School of Music at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Mr. Roberts holds an AV rating and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 2005. He is also admitted to practice before the Federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Graduating magna cum laude from James Madison University in 1994, Mr. Roberts earned a bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in music industry. He received his master’s degree in media writing and production from the University of Miami in 1997 and obtained his juris
doctorate from the University of Richmond in 2005.
